Day 1: Entebbe– Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
· Your Ugandan adventure begins with your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, ideally before 2:00 PM. After completing immigration formalities and collecting your luggage, you will meet your friendly Breath of Savanna Safaris and Events professional English-speaking driver-guide, who will be waiting to welcome you to Uganda.
· From Entebbe, we will begin our scenic journey towards Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a remarkable conservation area dedicated to protecting Uganda’s rhinoceros population. The sanctuary has played an important role in the successful reintroduction and conservation of rhinos in Uganda, giving visitors the opportunity to experience these magnificent animals in their natural environment.
· Upon arrival, you will check in at your accommodation and have time to relax and settle in after your journey. Enjoy dinner and a peaceful evening surrounded by the tranquil atmosphere of the sanctuary.
· Optional activity: If you arrive in Entebbe early enough, or if you are already staying at a hotel in the area, we can arrange an additional guided nature walk at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary at an extra cost, subject to time and availability.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 2: Rhino Tracking – Transfer To Murchison Falls National Park
· After an early breakfast, you will prepare for an exciting rhino tracking experience at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. At around 7:30 AM, you will meet your ranger-guide at the designated briefing point, where you will receive an introduction to the activity and important guidelines for your time in the sanctuary.
· Accompanied by an armed sanctuary ranger-guide, you will set out on foot in search of Uganda’s magnificent white rhinos. This is a unique opportunity to observe these impressive animals at close range while learning about their behaviour, habitat and the conservation efforts protecting them. As you walk through the sanctuary, you will also enjoy the peaceful surroundings, beautiful scenery and rich natural environment.
· After the rhino tracking experience, we will return to the vehicle and begin our journey towards Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park. We will make a lunch stop in Masindi, allowing you to enjoy a meal and take a short break before continuing the journey.
· We then proceed towards Murchison Falls National Park, a spectacular wilderness area renowned for its diverse wildlife and dramatic landscapes. The park is home to elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, hartebeests and many other species. Its defining attraction is the mighty Murchison Falls, where the Victoria Nile is forced through a narrow gorge before plunging into the river below with tremendous power.
· On arrival in the park, we will make a detour to the Top of Murchison Falls, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the powerful waters rushing through the gorge and capture memorable photographs.
· There may also be an opportunity to enjoy a game drive en route to your accommodation, depending on the timing of the day and park conditions. We will then continue to your lodge or camp for check-in, dinner and relaxation.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park Full Day Experience
· Rise early and enjoy breakfast before setting out for an exciting morning game drive through Murchison Falls National Park. This is your opportunity to explore the park’s vast savannah landscapes as they come alive in the cooler morning hours.
· With your experienced Breath of Savanna Safaris and Events driver-guide, we will explore different areas of the park in search of its remarkable wildlife. Murchison Falls National Park is home to an impressive variety of animals, including elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, Jackson’s hartebeests, hyenas and, with some luck, leopards. The open savannah provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography as animals graze, move across the plains or search for their next meal.
· Around midday, rather than making the long journey back to the lodge, we can stop for lunch at Red Chilli, conveniently located within the park. This allows you to relax and refuel before continuing with your afternoon wildlife adventure.
· After lunch, we will head back into the wilderness for your afternoon game drive, exploring more of Murchison Falls National Park and searching for wildlife that may become more active as the day begins to cool. Every drive offers something different, and your guide will help you make the most of the wildlife encounters and scenery along the way.
· After a rewarding full day in the park, we will return to your lodge where you can freshen up, relax and enjoy the evening at your leisure before dinner and overnight.
· Optional activity – Boat Cruise to the Bottom of Murchison Falls: If you would like to experience the Nile from a different perspective, you may opt for an 11:00 AM boat cruise upstream towards the base of Murchison Falls at an additional cost of USD 35 per person. The cruise offers excellent opportunities to see hippos and Nile crocodiles along the riverbanks, together with a variety of waterbirds and beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 4:Murchison Falls – Kibale Forest National Park
· After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and set out for one final morning game drive through Murchison Falls National Park before continuing your journey westwards.
· As we explore the park’s savannah plains, keep your eyes open for some of the wildlife you may have encountered during your stay, including elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, Jackson’s hartebeests and hyenas. With an experienced driver-guide accompanying you, we will take advantage of the morning hours to enjoy any final wildlife sightings and photography opportunities before leaving this remarkable wilderness behind.
· After the game drive, we will begin the journey towards the Kibale Forest National Park area. It is a relatively long drive, but the changing landscapes make the journey part of the adventure. Along the way, you will pass through local villages, rolling green countryside, picturesque hills and areas surrounded by lush tea plantations, offering an authentic glimpse into rural Uganda and its beautiful western landscapes.
· We will make our way towards your accommodation on the edge of Kibale Forest, arriving later in the day. Upon arrival, check in and take some time to relax and unwind after the day’s journey.
· Optional stop in Hoima: If you would like to break up the journey and stretch your legs, we can make a short stop in Hoima, time permitting. You may visit a local market, experience a little of the town’s everyday atmosphere and perhaps pick up some fresh seasonal fruit to enjoy during the remainder of the journey.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 5: Bigodi Wetlands Walk – Transfer To Queen Elizabeth National Park
· After breakfast, we will set out at around 7:30 AM for a guided excursion through the remarkable Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, a community-led conservation area located near the edge of Kibale Forest National Park.
· The 2–3-hour nature walk offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Uganda’s rich biodiversity at a slower and more intimate pace. Accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide, you will explore the wetlands and surrounding forest habitats while looking out for a variety of primates, birds and other wildlife.
· Among the species you may encounter are red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys and L’Hoest’s monkeys, while bird enthusiasts can watch for colourful species such as the Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek. The walk also provides an opportunity to learn about the local community’s conservation initiatives and the important role the wetlands play in supporting both wildlife and surrounding communities.
· After the excursion, we will return to your accommodation where you can freshen up and enjoy an early lunch before departing for Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes approximately 2 hours, with the scenery gradually changing as we approach one of Uganda’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.
· Depending on our arrival time, there may be an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Keep watch for wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, lions and, with some luck, the elusive leopard as we explore the park’s diverse landscapes.
· We will later proceed to your accommodation for check-in, relaxation, dinner and overnight.
· Optional upgrade – Chimpanzee Trekking: For guests who would prefer a closer primate experience, the Bigodi Wetlands excursion can be replaced with chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest at an additional cost of USD 285 per person.
· Chimpanzee trekking permits are limited and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis, so they should be secured well in advance of the trekking date. Availability is subject to confirmation at the time of booking.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 6: Morning Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Safari
· Rise early and enjoy breakfast at your lodge before setting out for an exciting morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains, one of the most renowned wildlife areas within Queen Elizabeth National Park.
· The open savannah plains provide excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, especially during the cooler morning hours when animals are most active. With your experienced safari guide, keep watch for lions, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, antelopes and other wildlife moving across the plains. With some luck, you may also encounter the elusive leopard resting in the grasslands or moving through the surrounding vegetation.
· After an exciting morning exploring the park, return to your lodge for some time to relax and enjoy lunch.
· In the afternoon, head out for one of Queen Elizabeth National Park’s most memorable experiences—a two-hour boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. This natural waterway connects Lake George and Lake Edward and is famous for its remarkable concentration of wildlife along the shores.
· As you cruise gently along the channel, you will have wonderful opportunities to observe large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants and buffaloes coming to the water to drink and cool off. The channel is also a paradise for bird enthusiasts, with numerous water and woodland species often seen along the shoreline, including the striking African skimmer.
· The relaxed pace of the boat allows you to enjoy the wildlife from a unique perspective while capturing beautiful photographs of the animals and surrounding landscapes.
· After the cruise, return to your lodge, freshen up and spend the remainder of the evening at leisure. Relax by the lodge, enjoy its facilities and reflect on an unforgettable day of wildlife exploration in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis.
Day 7: Kasenyi Plains – Isasha Sector - Bwindi
· After an early breakfast, we set out for another rewarding morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. The early hours offer excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities as the savannah comes alive.
· With your experienced safari guide, keep a keen eye out for Cape buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs, antelopes and lions. Leopards may also be encountered, although these elusive cats are naturally more difficult to spot. Every game drive is different, and the excitement lies in never knowing what may appear around the next bend.
· We will then continue towards the Ishasha Sector, located in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park and renowned for its famous tree-climbing lions. Seeing these magnificent cats resting high in the branches of large fig or acacia trees is one of Uganda’s most unique wildlife experiences.
· While sightings cannot be guaranteed, your guide will carefully search the area for these iconic lions. If you are fortunate enough to find them resting in the trees, you will have an incredible opportunity to observe and photograph them from a unique perspective. Ishasha is also home to plenty of other wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, topis, Uganda kobs and various antelope species.
· After exploring Ishasha, we will leave the park and continue towards your accommodation near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey takes you through some of southwestern Uganda’s beautiful landscapes, gradually bringing you closer to the rainforest and the mountain gorilla habitat.
· Upon arrival, check in and enjoy a relaxed evening at your lodge. With the physically demanding gorilla trekking experience awaiting you the following morning, the remainder of the day is intentionally kept free for rest and preparation.
· Take some time to unwind, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and prepare for one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters of your lifetime.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis.
Day 8: Gorilla Trekking In Bwindi – Transfer To Lake Mburo
· Today is the highlight of your Uganda safari—an unforgettable encounter with the magnificent mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
· After an early breakfast, prepare your packed lunch and meet your safari driver-guide for the transfer to the park’s ranger station. Here, you will receive a detailed briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) team on the gorilla trekking guidelines, safety precautions and responsible behavior while in the forest. You will also be assigned to a gorilla trekking group.
· The trek begins at approximately 8:00 AM, accompanied by experienced park ranger-guides and fellow trekkers. The journey through Bwindi’s ancient rainforest can be physically demanding, with steep slopes, dense vegetation and, depending on the conditions, muddy and slippery trails. However, every step is rewarded by the anticipation of finding one of the forest’s remarkable gorilla families.
· The duration of the trek is unpredictable and can take approximately 3 to 8 hours or more, depending on the location and movements of the gorillas. Once your assigned gorilla family is located, you will have up to one hour to quietly observe these incredible primates in their natural habitat. Watching them interact, feed, groom and care for one another at such close range is a truly extraordinary experience that you will remember for a lifetime.
· After completing your trek, return to the ranger station where you will receive your gorilla trekking certificate, a special keepsake commemorating this remarkable wildlife encounter.
· You will then rejoin your safari vehicle and continue to the Lake Mburo National Park area. It will be a longer transfer after an active day in the forest, so the remainder of the journey will provide an opportunity to relax, enjoy Uganda’s changing landscapes and recover from the trek. Upon arrival near Lake Mburo, check in to your accommodation, enjoy dinner and settle in for a well-earned night’s rest.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis.
Day 9: Morning Walking Safari In Lake Mburo – Entebbe
· After an early breakfast, we will set out for a unique walking safari in Lake Mburo National Park. We will proceed to the designated meeting point, where you will meet your experienced ranger-guide and receive a short safety briefing before beginning your walk.
· Starting at approximately 7:00 AM, the 2–3-hour walking safari offers a completely different perspective of Uganda’s wildlife. Away from the safari vehicle, you will explore the park on foot under the guidance of an armed park ranger, getting closer to nature and experiencing the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the African wilderness at ground level.
· Lake Mburo is home to wildlife including zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, impalas and other antelope species. Along the way, your ranger will also help you discover some of the smaller details that are easily overlooked from a vehicle, including birdlife, butterflies, insects, animal tracks and other signs of wildlife.
· After completing the walking safari, we will return to the accommodation for some time to freshen up, check out and begin the journey back to Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight.
· During the journey, we will make a stop at the famous Equator crossing at Kayabwe. This is a great opportunity to take photographs, explore the equator monument and, if you wish, browse for locally made souvenirs. We will also stop for lunch before continuing towards Entebbe.
· We recommend booking your onward flight for 7:00 PM or later to allow sufficient time for the journey and planned stops. Your driver-guide will ensure you reach Entebbe International Airport in good time for your departure.
· As your Uganda adventure comes to an end, take a moment to reflect on the incredible experiences you’ve shared — from tracking rhinos and exploring the savannahs of Murchison Falls to encountering chimpanzees and mountain gorillas, and finally experiencing Uganda’s wildlife on foot.
· End of safari — departure from Entebbe International Airport.
· Thank you for choosing Breath of Savanna Safaris and Events. We hope to welcome you back to East Africa for another unforgettable adventure.
· Drop off at your booked hotel in Entebbe or Entebbe Airport for your flight back home. (3 hours prior check-in is required.)
