Day 1: Entebbe– Kibale Forest National Park
· Your Ugandan adventure begins with your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, ideally before 2:00 PM. After completing immigration formalities and collecting your luggage, you will be welcomed by your professional, English-speaking Breath of Savanna Safaris driver-guide, who will brief you about the journey ahead.
· You will then depart Entebbe and travel westwards towards Kibale Forest National Park, renowned for its incredible primate diversity and often referred to as Uganda’s premier destination for chimpanzee trekking. Enjoy the changing scenery along the way as you leave the bustle of Entebbe behind and journey into the lush countryside of western Uganda.
· Upon arrival near Kibale Forest, you will check in at your accommodation and have time to relax and unwind after the journey. Depending on your arrival time and energy levels, the remainder of the afternoon can be enjoyed at leisure.
· Optional Crater Lakes Excursion – USD 15 per person: If time permits and you would like to explore more of the area, you may take an optional excursion to the Kibale Crater Lakes region. The experience offers beautiful views of the numerous crater lakes nestled among rolling green hills, with opportunities to appreciate the peaceful landscapes and natural beauty of the surrounding countryside.
· Otherwise, you can simply relax at the lodge and prepare for the exciting chimpanzee experience awaiting you the following day.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 2: Bigodi Wetland Experience – Transfer To Queen Elizabeth National Park
· After breakfast, you will set out at approximately 7:30 AM for a guided nature walk through the remarkable Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-managed conservation area located near Kibale Forest National Park.
· The 2–3-hour Bigodi Wetland walk offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Uganda’s rich biodiversity while supporting local community conservation initiatives. Accompanied by an experienced local guide, you will follow nature trails through lush vegetation and wetlands, keeping an eye out for some of the area’s fascinating wildlife.
· Along the way, you may encounter several species of primates, including red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys and L’Hoest’s monkeys. The sanctuary is also a rewarding destination for bird enthusiasts, with species such as the striking Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek among the highlights. The peaceful surroundings, local knowledge and close connection with nature make this a memorable part of your Uganda safari.
· After the excursion, you will return to the lodge to freshen up and enjoy an early lunch before departing for Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes approximately 2 hours, taking you through the scenic landscapes of western Uganda.
· Upon arrival in the park, and depending on the time available, you may have the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon game drive. As you explore the park’s diverse habitats, keep watch for some of Uganda’s iconic wildlife, including African elephants, buffaloes, lions and, with some luck, the elusive leopard.
· You will later proceed to your lodge for check-in, dinner and a relaxing evening surrounded by the natural beauty of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
· Optional Chimpanzee Trekking – USD 285 per person: For guests who would prefer a chimpanzee experience, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest can be arranged instead of the Bigodi Wetland excursion. Chimpanzee permits are limited and issued on a first-come, first-served basis, so they must be secured in advance to guarantee availability.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Safari
· Rise early and enjoy breakfast at your lodge before setting out for an exciting morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains, one of the most renowned wildlife areas within Queen Elizabeth National Park.
· The open savannah plains provide excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, especially during the cooler morning hours when animals are most active. With your experienced safari guide, keep watch for lions, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, antelopes and other wildlife moving across the plains. With some luck, you may also encounter the elusive leopard resting in the grasslands or moving through the surrounding vegetation.
· After an exciting morning exploring the park, return to your lodge for some time to relax and enjoy lunch.
· In the afternoon, head out for one of Queen Elizabeth National Park’s most memorable experiences—a two-hour boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. This natural waterway connects Lake George and Lake Edward and is famous for its remarkable concentration of wildlife along the shores.
· As you cruise gently along the channel, you will have wonderful opportunities to observe large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants and buffaloes coming to the water to drink and cool off. The channel is also a paradise for bird enthusiasts, with numerous water and woodland species often seen along the shoreline, including the striking African skimmer.
· The relaxed pace of the boat allows you to enjoy the wildlife from a unique perspective while capturing beautiful photographs of the animals and surrounding landscapes.
· After the cruise, return to your lodge, freshen up and spend the remainder of the evening at leisure. Relax by the lodge, enjoy its facilities and reflect on an unforgettable day of wildlife exploration in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 4: Kasenyi Plains – Isasha Sector - Bwindi
· After an early breakfast, we set out for another rewarding morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. The early hours offer excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities as the savannah comes alive.
· With your experienced safari guide, keep a keen eye out for Cape buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs, antelopes and lions. Leopards may also be encountered, although these elusive cats are naturally more difficult to spot. Every game drive is different, and the excitement lies in never knowing what may appear around the next bend.
· We will then continue towards the Ishasha Sector, located in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park and renowned for its famous tree-climbing lions. Seeing these magnificent cats resting high in the branches of large fig or acacia trees is one of Uganda’s most unique wildlife experiences.
· While sightings cannot be guaranteed, your guide will carefully search the area for these iconic lions. If you are fortunate enough to find them resting in the trees, you will have an incredible opportunity to observe and photograph them from a unique perspective. Ishasha is also home to plenty of other wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, topis, Uganda kobs and various antelope species.
· After exploring Ishasha, we will leave the park and continue towards your accommodation near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey takes you through some of southwestern Uganda’s beautiful landscapes, gradually bringing you closer to the rainforest and the mountain gorilla habitat.
· Upon arrival, check in and enjoy a relaxed evening at your lodge. With the physically demanding gorilla trekking experience awaiting you the following morning, the remainder of the day is intentionally kept free for rest and preparation.
· Take some time to unwind, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and prepare for one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters of your lifetime.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking In Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
· Today is the highlight of your Uganda safari — an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
· After an early breakfast, you will prepare for the trek, collect your packed lunch, and transfer to the designated ranger station. Here, the Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guides will conduct a briefing on the trekking guidelines, safety procedures and responsible gorilla-watching practices. You will also be allocated to a gorilla trekking group before the adventure begins.
· At approximately 8:00 AM, you will enter the ancient Bwindi Forest accompanied by experienced ranger guides. Gorilla trekking is a genuine wilderness experience, and the terrain can be challenging, with steep slopes, uneven trails, dense vegetation and, at times, muddy conditions. The trek may take approximately 3–8 hours, depending on the location and movements of the gorilla family you are tracking.
· The effort is richly rewarded when you finally encounter these remarkable endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Once your gorilla family has been located, you will have one hour to observe them from the permitted distance, watching their interactions, feeding habits and fascinating family dynamics. Being in the presence of these gentle giants is an experience that stays with you long after you leave the forest.
· After the encounter, you will make your way back through the forest with your ranger guides. Upon completing the trek, you will receive a gorilla trekking certificate as a special keepsake of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
· Return to your accommodation, where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest and spend the remainder of the day at leisure. After the physical demands of the trek, this is the perfect opportunity to relax, recover and reflect on the incredible experience you have just had.
· Optional Afternoon Experience: If you complete the gorilla trek earlier than expected and still have the energy for another activity, speak with your Breath of Savanna Safaris driver-guide about the options available in the area. Depending on the time, local conditions and your interests, an additional activity may be arranged at an extra cost.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest– Lake Mburo National Park
· After a relaxed breakfast at your lodge, you will check out and begin your scenic journey towards Lake Mburo National Park. Enjoy the changing landscapes of southwestern Uganda as you travel through the countryside towards this beautiful savannah destination.
· Along the way, you will stop for lunch at a suitable local restaurant, allowing you to enjoy a meal and take a short break before continuing the journey to the park.
· Upon arrival at Lake Mburo National Park, you will proceed to your lodge for check-in and a brief opportunity to freshen up and relax. Later in the afternoon, you will head out for an exciting game drive, exploring the park as the temperatures become cooler and wildlife becomes increasingly active.
· Lake Mburo may be one of Uganda’s smaller national parks, but it offers an impressive variety of wildlife. During your drive, keep an eye out for zebras, giraffes, impalas, elands, buffaloes and other plains game. The park is also home to a remarkable variety of bird species. With some luck, you may encounter the elusive leopard as you explore the savannah.
· As evening approaches, enjoy the beautiful African sunset before returning to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.
· Optional Night Game Drive – USD 30 per person: For guests interested in experiencing the park after dark, a night game drive can be arranged at an additional cost of USD 30 per person. Accompanied by a ranger, you will have the opportunity to search for nocturnal wildlife and experience a completely different side of Lake Mburo.
· Dinner and Overnight at your preferred Lodge/Camp on Full Board Basis
Day 7: Morning Walking Safari – Equator Crossing – Transfer To Entebbe APT
· Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at your lodge before setting out for your final wildlife experience in Lake Mburo National Park.
· After breakfast, you will proceed to the designated meeting point where you will meet your armed park ranger-guide for a guided walking safari. Beginning at approximately 7:00 AM, this 2–3-hour experience offers a completely different perspective of the park as you explore its wilderness on foot.
· Walking through the savannah allows you to experience nature at a much more intimate level. Along the way, you may encounter zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and a variety of bird species, while your ranger shares insights into the animals, vegetation and tracks you encounter. Being on foot also gives you the chance to appreciate details that can easily be missed from a safari vehicle, including butterflies, insects, animal footprints and smaller aspects of the ecosystem.
· After the walking safari, return to the lodge to freshen up, check out and begin your journey towards Entebbe. Along the way, you will make a memorable stop at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe, one of Uganda’s popular landmarks.
· Here, you will have time to take photographs at the Equator monument, explore the surrounding area and, if you wish, browse for locally made souvenirs. You will also enjoy a hot lunch before continuing your journey to Entebbe.
· You will then proceed to Entebbe International Airport in good time for your onward flight, scheduled for 7:00 PM or later. Depending on your flight time and road conditions, your driver-guide will ensure that you arrive at the airport with sufficient time for check-in and departure formalities.
· As your Ugandan adventure comes to an end, we sincerely thank you for choosing Breath of Savanna Safaris. We hope you leave Uganda with unforgettable memories of its incredible wildlife, breathtaking landscapes and, most importantly, your extraordinary encounter with the mountain gorillas.
